Writing Exam 1

My interesting personal story

We used frequently to lose care about the small but most value things. We are now living in a society where consumerism and trends are the most important things for everybody. In our country, the biggest part of people are poor and the money of the country is distributed in a few people. My family and I have never been people with money so we have never have luxuries.
My parents are divorced since I was 10 years. My biological father is a soldier, and he also has problems with alcohol. One day he made a mistake under the influence of alcohol at work, so he get punished by a hard way. He went to militar jail for a year and he instead of receives his regular pay that was around $45,000 per 15 days, he starts to receive $5,000 per 2 weeks. And for the divorce pension instead we received around $10,000 we start to receive like $2,000 per 2 weeks.
That was a drastical change in our lives. My mom has a health problem so she can´t work. She has 2 houses and a business space and she rent them. But in that time she was only renting one of them and it doesn't cost lot of money. She also doesn't want me to get a job because in that time I was 13 years and I hadn´t work never before. We was on a real bad situation and it stills like that for a lot of months. We were very carefully about in what we spent money. We can't go out in family for months. I can't go to my graduation trip beacuase I didn't have the money. Now we are living not with luxuries as always, but I really learn to take care about all the things and blessings that I had. For me a bowl of beans and a tortilla with fresh cheese is a very good thing in my table. We have to start to appreciate that little things that we have. We never know what the life, god, or the destination has for us. Now I'm studying the career I like the most in a university were a lot of people would like to get in but no much people can because is expansive. I really appreciate that I get learn the lesson. The small thing are always the best.

  1. Hello Luis,

What a touching story. It must have been hard, but what I see is that you took the good things from the situation. You learned something and that is the most important thing. You became a better person at your young age. My hat off to you and to your Mom. :)

I am also glad to see that your writing in English is quite good. That makes me very happy. You do have mistakes, but nothing that can't be improved quickly. :)

    Grade: 100

    Ms. Julia :)
